Go-ahead for job-creating Golden Mile Gateway plans
More than 350 jobs are set to be created after plans for the transformation of the ‘Golden Mile Gateway’ scheme in Leicester were approved.Henry Boot Developments is behind the scheme for the former Sainsbury’s site in Belgrave Road which include the refurbishment of the retail store, a new two-three-storey retail and leisure development, 18 apartments, a resturant / retail unit and employment space.The old Sainsbury’s site was constructed in the 1980s and is currently used by B&M.After being approved by Leicester City Council, a total of 355 will be created along with 96,455 sq ft of retail space and 331 car parking spaces at the 8.13-acre site.Planning permission was granted for a similar scheme in 2012 but has not proved to be “feasible or viable” to develop.
